DESCRIPTION:
Joan. Klock, Amsterdam, Netherlands, tall clock, 8 day, time and strike with alarm, weight driven movement in a marquetry inlaid mahogany case with flat top and twist columns flanking hood and lenticle glass for pendulum on trunk door resting on bracket feet. The brass dial has Roman numeral chapter ring, calendar aperture and seconds bit with maker's signature below 6.
CONDITION:
the case retains an old finish. There are elements of the hood that have been restored and the molding below the hood has been replaced, no doubt to make the hood fit the trunk which, from the difference in wood and inlay, did not start life together. There are other typical veneer splits and repairs throughout the case. The weights are replaced. The lenticular glass is period. The silvering on chapter ring has worn off.
